[digiKam-users] What is stored in the photo and what is stored in the database

I am exploring options for photo management for our many international offices which are responsible for gathering and uploading photographs into our DAM. What program they use locally at the discretion of the staff. I can make recommendations, they may be followed by staff members but also could be superseded by the next person in the role. This means that digiKam might be used for three to four years and then replaced by some other software. What information is stored in the original asset and what is stored in the digiKam sqlite database? What information will be lost in the transfer?

regards,
