It's not the digiKam "port" that depends on GTK1, but the kipi-plugins 
port (which digiKam depends upon). Anyway, I just patched the 
kipi-plugins Portfile file to no longer depend upon gdk-pixbuf (which 
depends upon GTK1, but really is optional for kipi-plugins):

Now I could compile everything via MacPorts again. I just had to patch 
digiKam to not display blurry thumbnails (on my PowerPC iMac):

Another way to install digiKam on Mac OS X, while GTK1 is broken, is by 
installing it without the kipi-plugins:

# port -n install digikam +no_kipi
