[Digikam-devel] Consistence between Albums, Dates and Tags

On the left hand side, digikam has three tabs (Albums, Dates, Tags), which
all produce a tree of picture selections. Despite this similar task, those
behave very differently in producing the thumbnail view. For example, some
include pictures of sub-nodes, others do not, and grouping of the generated
thumbnail view is not consistent either.

There is a bug in b.k.o describing exactly this problem, and suggesting how
it should work. I agree with all those suggestions:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140743
"more flexible and consistent grouping of icons"

I am writing this mail, because I want to emphasize, that there are multiple
bugs in b.k.o which are related to the above. Most of them would (should)
be closed by its implementation:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126871
"click on parent folder in tree should generate a reaction"
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128231
"A way to view pictures recursively in albums and sub-albums at the same
   time would be cool"
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134389
"Sort images by date - even when spanning albums"
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138200
"Display all pictures when no tag is selected instead of no picture"
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140734
"allow collapsing albums in date/tag view"

and maybe more which I missed.

What do you think, is it possible to refactor the left sidebar and related
issues, such as to have more consistence between the different sorting
options (Albums, Dates, Tags)?
