I don't think this would be a good idea. After all, "Save as..." is used in 
pretty much all GUIs to signify save under another name. Your proposal would 
make digikam incoherent with the vast majority of desktop software.

Even worse, The Gimp already has a "Save a Copy..." menu entry and it does 
exactly that: save a copy and do _not_ change the name of the current 
picture. In this respect "Save as..." indicates more clearly that the name of 
the file is being changed and that one continues to work on a copy instead of 
the original.
