I think something could be changed, but not this move ("Show Statusbar" is in Settings menu in the never-finished KDE HIG). As usual, let's ask yourself and your testers, how frequently do you use the option.
I have personally seen users and myself rather calling full-screen action, if anything, in apps to get some space for my editor's content. So how about a setting in application settings dialog, not a prominent View option?
For special users that feel ignored by that, there are always the shortcut keys editor and the toolbar editor.</pre>
