It is pretty clearly a Phonon (or rather: libxine) issue, whether
Dragon Player works or not, so there is not much we could do about it.

You can clearly see it here:

It's possible that Dragon Player does not use VolumeFaderEffectXT,
which would explain why it works, while Amarok does not. To me it
looks like your libxine has issues; try upgrading or downgrading it.
