The reason I tried this branch is because I really really want dynamic playlists that work. And that I can come back to in 3 months and still understand what they do!<div><br></div><div>I can't really answer the "dumb it down" question. What I wonder is what scenarios does the current approach fulfil that the simple interface (not necessarily functionality) of 1.4 couldn't? That would help me give more constructive input on the dynamicplaylist branch.</div>
<div><br></div><div>For example, I want a playlist with songs before 2000 that are longer than 2 minutes in length. I could do this with four or five clicks in 1.4. Maybe I'm dumb, but I've failed to do that with either approach to dynamic playlists.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Thanks.</div><div><br></div><div>P.<br><div><br></div><div><div class="gmail_quote"><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">Ok. I understand. Dumb it down.<br>
Since most people seem to be satisfied with a playlist that selects<br>
songs from a number of artists and/or genres and doesn't repeat songs.<br>
<br>
So a dynamic playlist generated from a search string should be what most<br>
people want here. Just type "U2 OR Gorillaz"<br><br></blockquote><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex;">
<br>
<br>
Then one last point to think about:<br>
There were people (maybe not the target audience for Amarok) who used<br>
dynamic playlists and felt a need to improve them to the current state<br>
which is (let's not fool ourselves) quite complex.<br>
1.4 functionality obviously was not good enough.<br>
<br>
We currently have three main bias groups and the custom bias even has<br>
sub-biases with the functionality to dynamically load more. All in all 5<br>
different biases.<br>
<br>
Not only that. We have an open wish entry for a scripting interface.<br>
Somebody feels that the current dynamic playlists are not powerful<br>
enough<br>
<br>
And then we have the automatic playlist generator which in principle has<br>
the same functionality and a little bit different UI but still a similar<br>
amount of filters.<br>
<br>
So, dumb it down?<br>
