In what way do you mean "network shares"?  I'm currently mounting (via
nfs / or samba) my entire music collection from a remote computer, and
I didn't think I was having any troubles!

Unless, you are mean to say that taglibs doesn't work with access to
files via the smb:// or nfs:// url's?

Excuse my ignorance, but I was wondering if there is any interest /
objections / thoughts on the idea of replacing the current Collection
manager with that implemented in digikam:

This would allow one to have Collections on Network Shares. (Digikam
currently detects if these directories are available, and if not,
doesn't show them.)

Well, one important difference is that Amarok cannot use Network
Shares currently (TagLib only works locally).

So I'm not sure what advantages are left if you subtract that.
