Not if it's nothing the user will ever interact with directly.  I can't really 
see any reason why the user would, though.

On the other hand, discarding the old ones and starting again means that a 
full rescan has a chance of fixing any errors that creep in.

So I can only see reasons to discard it, and none to keep it.
